Insight from a fan, Snorkelboop - can anyone with an iPhone confirm?
A. The SLED agent was wrong about how iOS stores thumbnails on Maggie's phone, and she was definitely using the phone up until 8:55, which brings the timeline for Alex to clean up from the murders to only 9 minutes.
a. Maggie's phone was browsing Facebook from 8:53:15-8:55:32 PM. It had the screen on and multiple orientation changes during that time.
b. iOS took a screenshot of the Facebook app at 8:55:48 PM.
c. iOS only takes that screenshot when an app is sent to the background. Prosecution's SLED agent (Britt Dove) testified that it takes these screenshots randomly, but he was wrong. I do iOS testing for a living, but you don't have to take my word for it. There's an easy way to test it yourself.
d. Open the clock app on an iOS device and start the stopwatch. Minimize the app (home button) and then double tap the home button to see your open apps. The screenshot taken by iOS is the screenshot used as the thumbnails for your open apps. As long as you don't open your clock app again, that stopwatch in the thumbnail will not change. You can leave it in the background for hours if you like. The app itself will be running in the background and when you finally do open the app again, it will jump ahead. This proves that the screenshot is not being updated as the app runs in the background.
e. The Prosecution's expert was wrong about this screenshot being 'random' or something that happens in the background. It means that the app was sent to the background when the phone's screen went off. Which means Maggie was on Facebook for those 2 minutes, and presumably not being murdered.
f. If Maggie was using Facebook until 8:55, it severely tightens up Alex's timeline for cleanup before picking up his phone at Moselle 9:04 and starting his car at 9:06.
g. 9 minutes. That is not very much time.
