N. From Rumble commenter iforce2d "If Alex did it, why would he feel the need to take Maggie's phone and throw it out on the road? He could easily choose a moment when nobody was recording video or talking on their phone, so there would be no fear of digital evidence. He would also not be worried about getting interrupted by any witnesses coming along immediately after the killing. So if he wanted to see something on the phone (which he knew the password for) he could have done that and then put it back like he did with Paul's phone, and avoided a whole lot of fuss and speculation. On the other hand if someone else did it and was surprised by Maggie, they would likely be concerned that the phone might have captured audio or video, but more importantly they would be in an awful hurry to leave the scene asap. For all they knew Alex heard the shots and would come back any second. They could have destroyed the phone with more gunfire, but had already taken 5 shots more than they had planned for, so perhaps opted not to make more noise (or gun was jammed, ammo spent etc). They would have been aware that the phone might be trackable but that was the lesser of two evils in the heat of the moment. First priority was to get away from there. A short while later when out of the immediate danger zone, and after concluding that the phone contained no incriminating evidence, the potential for it being tracked became the more important consideration."
